Lithium Supply Outlook Eases, Prices Under Pressure

On May 22, most non-ferrous and new energy commodities fluctuated, with lithium carbonate trading in a volatile pattern . Customs data showed that in April 2026, China imported 32,650 tonnes of lithium carbonate, up 8.93% month-on-month and 15.23% year-on-year, with Chile accounting for 65% and Argentina for 29% of imports . Both countries saw obvious month-on-month increases, further strengthening expectations of ample supply . In the spot market, battery-grade lithium carbonate dropped RMB 2,000 to RMB 178,250 per tonne . While overseas supply disruptions are nearing their end, the market continues to face pressure from expectations of increased supply . Meanwhile, copper, aluminium and zinc all experienced volatile trading, with supply-side constraints providing some underlying support .
